Congress MLA ‘Deshprabhu’ is drug lord for rave parties of beach, Gif of Hippie culture; Corrupt Politicians for Casino Hot spots; God knows who knows the God. But we are lucky to find him in Goa .

Maharshtra is a treasure of the surnames. If there is ’Sahashtrabuddhe’ then there must be ‘Dashsahashtrabuddhe’. If your friend is Punekar then you can make another friend ‘Mumbaikar’. I read ‘Rastrapita’ but to day in the news of CNNlive I found ‘Deshprabh’ the Congress MLA of Goa. God knows who knows the God. But we are lucky to find him in Goa .

I recall a romantic incident of the Governor of Goa Honorable S C Jamir. When residents of our south coast area were facing t-sunami then Honorary Govenor was dancing at a night party in a hotel of Goa.

In the continuation of above incident following news story of CNN-IBN is more interesting. CNN-IBN got access to one such party at Congress MLA Jitendra Deshprabhu’s residence.

All complaints by locals to the police to intervene went futile, not because the police couldn’t do much, but because they were just not allowed to.
Deshprabhu was seen using his political position to prevent the police from carrying out investigation.

A radio-taped conversation, available with CNN-IBN, shows just how blatantly police are influenced into inaction by those in power. An excerpt from the conversation that took place between Deshprabhu and the local Police Control Room may be found at:

Rave Party at beach
See how much the difference between ‘Kathani aur Karni’.
Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism Minister Wilfred de Souza on Friday warned the organisers of such parties and police officials in these areas of action if rave parties continue in the area. Being big money spinners, the parties reportedly get patronage from various authorities, including village panchayats and local politicians; lament some villagers who did not want to be named.

Emphasizing the need to take steps to check rave parties, Mr. de Souza said that he has discussed the matter with Chief Minister Pratapsing Rane, who holds the Home portfolio. He said police personnel turning a blind eye to such happenings will be transferred. People in the coastal belt have been asked to be watchful about rave parties, and report it to the police, he added.
As reported by the BBC News: “The atmosphere is electric. A Russian belly dancer shakes her body on one end of the floor. On the other, a Caribbean band sings effortlessly.

“Between them are men and women from various parts of India and beyond, enjoying a gambling night out.

Gift of Hippie culture
The party culture and nightlife has been gifted to Goa by the Hippies, who came to India in 1960s. They found the beaches of Goa perfect enough to party and enjoy all night long.

The Rave parties are gaining more and more popularity every passing year. Earlier Rave parties meant Loud music, Boozing, and Addictive Drugs abuse. The hippies had a kind of life style which required alcohol, drugs and other illegal consumable items. Slowly the craze of these kinds of parties started building up in the youths and the visitors of Goa . Though ther is regulatory norms and these have been declared illegal by law. The Rave parties of Goa are also referred as Trance parties.

Starting in the 1980s Nigerians and Kenyan tourists found the beaches a save haven for drug trade.
In the early 90s Israeli backpackers and soldiers successfully entered the cartel and started the trend of Rave Parties in close-door venues to find quick sellers.

In 2002 Russian drug lords made their entry and operate in the north of Goa and the Israelis operate in the south.
The drugs have begun making their way back and forth between Goa and cities like Mumbai and Pune.

Last week Narcotics Control Bureau arrested two drug runners with heroin worth Rs 15 crore. The runners had picked up the consignment from Pune and were going to deliver it to the infamous Goan drug dealer Charles.
Police sources say the heroin was meant to be sold at a nightclub.
Drug arrests are few and far between in Goa because sources say the cartels have strong connections in the police and panchayats.
But police files have been able to form a broad picture about their operations.

Casino Hot spot
“This is Goa ’s own Las Vegas .
“ Goa is on the road to becoming the casino capital of South Asia , trying to take advantage of the uncertain political climate in the present casino hub, Kathmandu in Nepal .

“The government’s proposed new casinos are an attempt to attract high-end tourists. “ Goa ’s existing casinos (five inside five-star hotels) are believed to have added to the foreign tourist traffic, which has gone up to over 320,000 a year, an increase of 20% over the last two years…”

Corruption
The Goa , as a matter of policy, does not encourages or Facilitates illicit production or distribution of drugs or other Restrict substances. However, recurrent reports confirm involvement of narcotics production and trafficking in the protection of some political leaders.
